Two Cakes

These are the cakes I made yesterday and today for a holiday party. They were picked up this afternoon - phew! The gift cake is a chocolate cake with two fillings: milk chocolate sour cream and a whipped bittersweet chocolate ganache. The snowflake cake is a 6 layer spiced carrot cake with a lemon cream cheese icing.

I just sent the kids out the door with their Dad and my plans for my night off are are: ignore the filthy house including the still sticky kitchen floor, take a long hot shower and go to bed before 8:00pm. I live such a glamorous life.

  4. Oh, these are gorgeous. Is there even the remote-est chance that you would share the recipes for the cakes? I'm not nearly that clever to decorate like that, but I can bake the cake part and the fillings sound sooooo yummy!

The fillings I just made up - traditional cream cheese icing with grated lemon zest and lemon juice instead of milk and vanilla. The chocolate sour cream is just a traditional butter, powdered sugar, lots of cocoa powder, sour cream for the liquid and vanilla. Whipped ganache is equal parts heavy cream and bittersweet chocolate melted and cooled and then beat until stiff.

  6. Ooooh!! Thank you! (Okay, my waistline and hips don't 'thank you', but that's a whole other issue!) I'm going to make these sometime soon.
