Scooby-Doo Birthday Party

Calvin (like most 4 year olds) has been talking about his birthday party for a year. He was constantly changing his mind about what kind of party he wanted and who would be invited. His favorite thing to shout at his siblings when they are fighting is "you can't come to my birthday party!" So, even though it had to be last minute, I did not feel like I could let him down. Invitations were sent via email with less than a week notice, but everyone came and we had a great time!

We had a Scooby-Doo scavenger hunt. The presents were stolen from the living room and the kids had to follow the clues (written on dog prints) to find the missing gifts. The first clue led them outside where they had to wrap up the mummy to receive their next clue. I bribed Ken with food to do this.

Scooby is hungry, let's find him a treat. Drop a bone in the far and then have a seat! After every kid dropped a bone in the jar, they looked for the next clue. It was hidden under the chair.

Sophie was one of our clue readers.

For this clue, they had to eat all of the cookies (dog bone shaped sugar cookies) in order to find the clue on the bottom of the bowl.

Another clue led them to a big bucket of water balloons. After throwing all of them at each other, they found the clue in the bucket. Other stations included blowing 50 bubbles, playing horseshoes, popping balloons by sitting on them to find the clue inside, a clue hidden in the mailbox, the sandbox and another up the apple tree.

The presents were eventually found hidden in a car!

Luckily, they were all still there and the kids sat on the front lawn to open them.

We had pizza, watermelon and orange and purple pop outside. Three kids managed to get stung by bees (we have a serious wasp issue). Two of them were mine.

The Scooby cake! Thank you to Lori and Kristen who cut out Scooby figures for me and to Heidi who baked the sugar cookies while I hid the clues!

It was a lot of fun and Calvin had a great time! He gave all of his friends Scooby snacks as a thank-you for coming.

  1. Wow, that was quite a thrown together party! How do you do that? And that cake,... isn't this the same kid that got the Skittles cake? You look beautiful in that picture, by the way.
