A Moment of Silence, Please
Sophie's moth died today. She spent the better part of the afternoon taking detailed observations of it's winged corpse with her big brother's magnifying glass. When her Dad got home, she informed him that she needed to email the entomologist at the UofM to let her know what happened and invite her to the funeral. I wonder if I need to provide the refreshments?

Not to worry too much though, the mourning cloak butterfly seems quite content under Sophia's care.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I had to try hard to keep from cracking up, and not entirely successfully, when Sophia earnestly told me we needed to invite the entomology professor to a funeral for the moth.
someday sophie needs the read that book "a girl of limberlost" or something like that. its set in the early 20th century and she puts herself through collage by collecting moths in her pond by her house. it was interesting. i learned some stuff about moths and was actually impressed by some of it.
ReplyDeleteglad you were able to keep a straight face. might not want to mention to sophie that i just killed a moth that was flying at my computer screen about 20 minutes ago!
