Thrify Finds

Some of my favorite finds last week.

Vintage clock in working order - it makes a great tick-tock sound ($5.00).
Little turquoise vase with metal top ($1.00)
Vintage earrings ($0.50)

Vintage child's apron with cats ( I may put this in my shop).

The vase has already been filled with happy, cheerful (and cheap) flowers from Sam's Club and I used the rest of the bouquet above the kitchen sink. I collected these little bottles when we lived in New Hampshire.

Thrify Finds

I found a couple of sweet little finds last week - at a random Wednesday yard sale.

This little rocker is the perfect size for Sophie's American Girl Doll ($2.00)

I debated over this darling cradle for a long time. Technically. Sophie does not need another cradle, but it was so cute and long enough for her American girl doll and it came with the feather bed and pillow. It was listed as $10.00, but when I brought it up the lady running the sale said she was closing soon and I could have it for $5.00 - without me even asking!

Sophie loves them both!

Happy Things - Garage Sales!

Yard Sale season has begun and I could not be happier! I have a serious problem this year as I have way too many kids on Thursday to be able to hit any yard sales. Instead, I have to see what I can find on Fridays and if I am around, on Saturdays.

I managed to go to a couple of sales on Friday on our way to the zoo and these are the treasures I found.

Funky vintage necklaces for Sophie and me $1.00 each.

A handful of vintage buttons - free! These will be used as centers for my flower pins and hair-clips.

Two pair vintage earrings $0.50 each. I will use these in pins as well.

A new (tags still attached) summer dress for Sophie $5.00.

Garage Sales are much cheaper than therapy or mood-altering drugs. Try it for yourself!

Yard Sale Love

These are from a couple of weeks ago. Last week the yard sales were a huge disappointment. I need my bargain therapy!

3 red books - $1.00
green twine - free
carousel horse salt and pepper shakers (a gift) - $1.00
6 cute glass dessert cups - $0.50 each
1 happy vintage spoon rest for the stove -$1.00

1 old round cheese box - $3.00

Yesterday I painted the back of my front door. It used to be white and now it is green. I am toying with the idea of painting the front of the front door green as well. I don't know though, the gold (was supposed to be chartreuse) is kind of growing on me!

Views from my window - Projects

Last week it was sunny and warm. Last week I painted the front door. It used to be barn door red and now it is chartreuse. Actually, the color is much more yellow than green and I'm not sure I like it on the door.

However, I also used it to paint these two old chairs I bought at a yard sale for $5.00 total. I LOVE the color on the chairs. We do not have matching kitchen chairs, just a mish-mash of wooden chairs collected from various yard sales. They are now being painted either chartreuse, black or white - and maybe some red ones too.

Yard Sale Goodies

Last week there were few yard sales - something about a holiday weekend. I did find one sale however and hit the jackpot!! It was like reliving all of those glorious New Hampshire yard sales - great old stuff, covered in dust, completely unorganized with cheap pricing. I was literally salivating and counting out every penny of change I could find in the car!

Here's most of my loot - 2 matching ironstone platters ($4), 1 wooden box filled with vintage buttons ($3), one brown and white toile platter ($2), three decorative acorns ($2) and one footed hand-painted bowl ($2).

This was my favorite find - love the color, love the hardware, love the size.

The previous owner evidentially stored his anorectal wipes inside. After a good cleaning, I plan on filling it with scrapbooking supplies!

Yard Sale = Happy Max!

I stopped by a yard sale on our way back from dance photos and guess what I found?

Hardcover copy (just came out in September, retails for $27.50) for $0.50!!! Max was ecstatic! He has book one and two and has read this one, but I told him I would not buy it when it came out and he had to wait for yard sale season. Hurray!

Yard Sale Therapy

These were my favorite finds from last week. Let me tell you one more time. I love yard sales.

1. Huge bin of legos for $8.00. The bin includes and entire lego Thomas the Train set with tracks and four trains and a mechanical magnetic lift tower thingy. The kids have been playing with these non-stop!

2. Twirly skirt for $1.00. I may have jumped up and down a little when I found this because every little girl needs a go-to bright red twirly skirt! When I was a girl, I had a yellow dress my Grandma Johnson made for me that I wore all of the time. It was my go to swirly dress and I loved it.

Happiness Is . . .

Yard Sale Season!!!! On Thursday morning I went to my first yard sale of the season. It's the cheapest therapy around - I spent the rest of the day smiling.

Here is a shot of my loot - a total of $4.50 (I'm smiling again). The vintage bottles and sifter are for a good friend who just had a baby - she loves old stuff. The wire basket now holds my collection of trims in the craft room.

This is a little vintage seek and find game with 30 little items hidden among the beads. The list of items is on one of the ends and for $0.75 it managed to keep the kiddos enthralled for several hours Thursday evening. They still have about 8 items that no one had found yet.

This great little wooden box already had the hanging materials on the back. It was a steal for $1.00 and is now hanging on my wall in the craft room holding favorite stamps and stickles.

I love a good yard sale - do you?

Little Happy Things

Do you know what makes me blissfully, incandescently happy? Do you?

A bargain - no, not just a bargain, a steal. I found these little treasures in Target this week, overlooked in the dollar bin. Since all of the other Christmas merchandise had been cleared out of the store, the manager agreed to sell these to me for 10 cents each!!! I love the round paper packs for scrapbooking and cards and the big brads and ribbon, perfect for the center of Christmas hair clips.

Happy, happy little find.

Thrifty Girl - Last of the Garage Sales

It is no secret to anyone who knows me that I love a good garage sale. Here is my find from this morning at the one sale I hit coming back from preschool. It is a full set, still in packaging of the Jim Shore nativity ornaments. They retail online for about $70.00 for the set.

I paid $4.00. My happy for the day.

Thrifty Girl

Sophie wore her new coat for the first time on Saturday. I picked it up this summer at a garage sale for $5.00. I let her know she is never allowed to eat in it because Mommy cannot afford the dry cleaning.
